Body Contouring and Tightening in Salzburg and the Tullnerfeld

After significant weight loss, after pregnancy, or in the course of natural ageing, the skin loses elasticity – often in areas that exercise and diet can no longer influence. Body surgery addresses exactly that: it removes excess tissue, tightens the underlying structures and restores the body contour. Dr. Matthias Spiegl is a board-certified specialist in Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery and performs these procedures in Salzburg and the Tullnerfeld – depending on their extent, either on an outpatient basis or with a short inpatient stay. Which procedure is appropriate depends on the degree and location of the excess, on skin quality and on the condition of the muscle wall: liposuction is not a substitute for a lift, and not every lift suits every finding. A stable body weight is a prerequisite for a lasting result in every case. The overview below introduces the available procedures briefly – each detail page covers technique, surgical course, aftercare and costs.

Bodylift

The bodylift is the most comprehensive form of body contouring and is indicated above all after massive weight loss or following bariatric surgery. Depending on the findings, a distinction is made between the lower bodylift (abdomen, hips, buttocks, combinable with a thigh lift), the upper bodylift (breast, back and where applicable the upper arms) and the full-body lift. Incisions follow the bikini line or natural skin creases wherever possible; local fat deposits can additionally be removed by liposuction. The procedure takes between two and a half and six hours under general anaesthesia and is performed as an inpatient procedure with two to three nights; compression garments are then worn for approximately six weeks.

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

Abdominoplasty removes excess skin and fat tissue from the abdomen while at the same time tightening the separated abdominal muscles. It is indicated not only for aesthetic reasons but also in cases of functional complaints such as back pain or postural problems, and for findings such as an umbilical hernia or rectus diastasis. In the classic variant the incision runs from hip to hip, the navel is detached and reinserted, and the rectus sheath is sutured; liposuction can be added. An important distinction: liposuction alone removes no lax skin and does not tighten the muscle wall.

Mini Abdominoplasty

The mini abdominoplasty is confined to the area below the navel and is suitable for moderate skin excess, smaller fat deposits and a firm abdominal wall without significant rectus diastasis. The incision lies just above the pubic hairline and the navel is not circumcised; suction drains are generally not required. The procedure takes approximately one and a half to two hours under general anaesthesia and is performed on an outpatient basis or with one overnight stay. Compression garments are worn for four to six weeks, and the final result becomes apparent after three to six months, remaining stable with a constant body weight.

Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)

Brachioplasty removes excess skin and fat tissue from the upper arms and reshapes the arm contour – typically after weight loss or in cases of age-related loss of elasticity. The access point lies on the inner side of the upper arm, where the scar is least conspicuous; the procedure is always combined with liposuction. Surgery takes approximately one hour, is performed on an outpatient basis under general anaesthesia and generally requires no drains. A compression sleeve is worn for four to five weeks, and sport is possible again after approximately four to six weeks.

Thigh Lift

The thigh lift treats excess skin on the inner thighs which, after substantial weight loss, is frequently not only a cosmetic but also a functional problem, causing friction and skin irritation. Three incision patterns are available: vertical along the inner side of the leg, horizontal in the groin area, and the T-incision as a combination of both; depending on the technique, fat is removed by liposuction beforehand. The procedure takes one to two hours under general anaesthesia and is usually performed without an overnight stay. A compression garment is worn for approximately six weeks, and depending on the incision pattern there is a short-term restriction on sitting.

Liposuction

Liposuction serves contouring rather than weight reduction: it removes circumscribed fat deposits that do not respond to diet and exercise, but does not change skin quality itself. Treatable areas include the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks and double chin, and in men also gynecomastia. Dr. Spiegl uses power-assisted liposuction: after infiltration of a tumescent solution, the fat tissue is aspirated through access points of approximately three millimetres using fine, vibrating cannulas. The procedure takes one to two hours and is performed on an outpatient basis; compression garments are worn for four to six weeks, and the final result becomes apparent after approximately twelve weeks.

Intimate Surgery

In the field of intimate surgery, procedures are performed exclusively on the female genitalia: labiaplasty, to reduce or reshape the inner or outer labia, and tightening in cases of tissue laxity. The reason is frequently not purely aesthetic but functional – discomfort caused by friction, asymmetries, or changes following childbirth, weight loss or ageing. Incisions are deliberately tissue-sparing and unnecessary tissue reduction is avoided; no drains are required. The procedure takes approximately one hour under local or general anaesthesia, patients are fit for work after three to five days, and the visible final result appears after six to twelve weeks.

Hyperhidrosis (Excessive Underarm Sweating)

For axillary hyperhidrosis that does not respond adequately to antiperspirants, creams or injections, suction curettage is available – a surgical reduction of the sweat glands in the armpit. Through access points of two to three millimetres, the glands are removed or deactivated by a combination of suction and fine curettage; no drains are used. The procedure takes approximately one to one and a half hours and is performed under local or general anaesthesia. Patients are fit for work after two to three days and the final result becomes apparent after four to six weeks; complete cessation of perspiration is not the aim.

Mommy Makeover

The Mommy Makeover is not a single procedure but an individually assembled combination that addresses the typical changes following pregnancy and breastfeeding in one operation – reduced skin firmness, loss of breast volume and a residual abdomen despite exercise. The procedures usually combined are an abdominoplasty, a breast lift or breast augmentation, and liposuction of the hips, waist or thighs. Surgery takes approximately three hours under general anaesthesia, with an inpatient stay of one to two nights. Light activity is usually possible again after approximately two weeks and sport at the earliest after four to six weeks; the final result becomes apparent after three to six months.
