Facelift – The Optimal Correction for Signs of Aging

When skin elasticity and facial volume are lost with age, wrinkles and jowls appear. At the beginning of this process, these can still be partially corrected with non-surgical procedures such as hyaluronic acid fillers. However, this so-called “Liquid Facelift” only has a temporary effect, as the hyaluronic acid breaks down again. Furthermore, fillers can make the face look heavy if too much is needed to counteract aging. Through surgical facial tightening – the Facelift – the signs of aging in the face can be optimally corrected, but what exactly is a facelift, and who is suitable for it?

There are many different facelift methods. In the past, the focus was mainly on the skin, and mainly this was tightened, which led to unnatural results and sometimes visible scars. Nowadays, the methods have evolved so that not only the skin, but the slackened connective tissue with the muscle layer is repositioned. Replacing like with like, that is the principle of Plastic Surgery. The muscle and connective tissue layer is brought back to its original location, and where volume was lost, it is replaced with autologous fat (fat grafting) if necessary. This avoids excessive tension on the skin, the scars heal almost invisibly, and the final result is a fresh, not artificial, look.

There are countless facelift techniques, and the procedure often differs fundamentally depending on the patient. Sometimes, for example, a neck lift is necessary, but sometimes only a mid-face lift is required. Every operation requires careful planning, but with a facelift, this is even more important than with many other operations. When one is suitable for a facelift cannot be generalized, but most patients are between 40 and 65 years old.

Should you be interested in a facelift, you are welcome to schedule a consultation appointment with Dr. Spiegl. During your first appointment, questions will be clarified without time pressure, comprehensive advice will be provided, and photo documentation will be created. You should definitely bring all available medical reports from your patient history. Should you decide to proceed with the operation with Dr. Spiegl after receiving the cost proposal (the price of a facial tightening starts at €6,900 including anesthesia and hospital stay), an appointment for the operation will be scheduled jointly. It is important to know that in Austria, legally, two weeks must elapse between the detailed consultation and the operation consent.

Dr. Spiegl performs the operation at the Barmherzige Brüder Hospital in Salzburg, where he can rely on uncompromising quality, the highest standards, and his trusted team. This gives you an additional – but important – piece of security.

The operation lasts – depending on the effort – between two and five hours and is performed under general anesthesia. Afterwards, you should rest for one to two weeks. Under certain circumstances, a compression mask must be worn after the operation. You are usually fit for work again after two to three weeks, and sport can be resumed after 6-7 weeks. The final result is visible after approximately 3-6 months.
