Upper Eyelid Lift in Salzburg & in the Tullnerfeld Region – for a Wide-Awake, Fresh Look

Surgical Upper Eyelid Correction with Dr. Matthias Spiegl in Salzburg & Pixendorf

Do your eyes look tired despite getting enough sleep? Excess skin on the upper eyelids and sagging connective tissue in the eye area are often the root causes. A surgical correction, known as an upper eyelid lift or “blepharoplasty”, can work wonders in these cases. Eyelid surgeries are among the most common aesthetic facial treatments and are the most frequently performed “cosmetic operations” among men.
The result: an open, refreshed, and more youthful gaze.

Why an upper eyelid lift is beneficial

An upper eyelid lift in Salzburg or in the Tullnerfeld region is recommended for:

  • Drooping eyelids (droopy lids) or excess skin on the upper eyelid (which can also be congenital),
  • A tired or sad facial expression despite getting sufficient sleep,
  • Limitations in the field of vision caused by overlapping skin,
  • Bothersome wrinkles and skin excess on the upper eyelid,
  • The desire for a fresher, more vital appearance.

The operation is considered a routine procedure in aesthetic surgery and yields long-lasting results.

Planning your upper eyelid lift with Dr. Spiegl

We take ample time for your concerns. As with many other procedures, questions frequently arise during the process. If you are interested in an upper eyelid lift, you are welcome to schedule a consultation appointment with Dr. Spiegl.

Consultation & Analysis:

During a consultation unconstrained by time, all your questions will be answered and you will receive comprehensive guidance. Additionally, a photographic documentation will be prepared. Please ensure you bring all available medical reports from your patient history. If you decide to move forward with the procedure with Dr. Spiegl after receiving the cost estimate, a joint appointment for the surgery will be scheduled. In this regard, it is important to note that by Austrian law, a mandatory two-week period must lapse between the initial information consultation and the signing of the surgical consent form.

The Day of Surgery:

After any final questions are addressed in a relaxed manner, the sterile washing and draping of the surgical area begins. Subsequently, a significant amount of time is dedicated to marking the excess skin to be removed, ensuring a highly symmetrical result. The upper eyelids are then numbed with a fine injection, rendering the entire procedure completely pain-free.
Later, the excess skin and, if necessary, small fatty deposits are precisely removed and the incisions are closed. The resulting scar will rest within the natural eyelid crease, making it virtually invisible later on. After the operation, the eyelids are cooled to minimize the risk of swelling.

Aftercare:

Before the sutures are removed after approximately 7 days, aftercare at home is of immense importance. Please observe the following guidelines:

  • Wear dark sunglasses on your journey home. You may experience temporary sensitivity to light. The eye drops used during surgery can cause blurred vision, which is temporary and typically resolves within 24 hours.
  • Do not wear contact lenses for at least 2 weeks following the surgery. Switch to glasses instead.
  • Avoid driving a vehicle as long as your vision remains blurred. Ensure you can safely and comfortably operate a vehicle before driving, which is typically the case around 5-10 days after surgery.
  • It is vital that you rest during the first 3-4 days after the operation. Ensure your head remains elevated while lying on your back to help prevent swelling at the surgical sites. Keep cooling the wound as often and as much as possible until the sutures are fully removed.

Returning to work & sports

When you can return to your workplace depends on factors such as the nature of your occupation and your healing progress. If your work involves minimal physical activity and requires no heavy lifting, you may be able to resume working even before the sutures are removed, provided you feel well enough.
If your job requires light physical labor or movement, you may need to pause for 1-2 weeks. Should your profession involve heavy lifting, strenuous physical exertion, or manual labor, you may need to take a full 2 weeks off to ensure proper healing, optimal swelling reduction, and to avoid complications.

Caution is required when resuming sports or physical activities after an upper eyelid lift. Please consult with us in this regard.
Light activities such as walking or gentle stretching can generally be resumed within a few days to a week after surgery. Light-impact exercises like stationary cycling or slow jogging can gradually be restarted after about 2 weeks. High-intensity sports such as weightlifting and activities requiring intense upper body movements should be avoided for approximately 3 weeks.
It is important to recognize that the healing process varies for each patient and that you must strictly follow your surgeon’s instructions. Exerting yourself too much or returning to sports too early can significantly increase the risk of complications.

The positive effects of an upper eyelid lift

An upper eyelid lift can significantly rejuvenate the appearance of the eye area, making the entire face look fresher, more alert, and friendlier. The procedure removes excess skin and, where necessary, fatty tissue. Despite the minimal risks associated with the surgery, an upper eyelid lift typically delivers long-lasting, natural-looking results.
The benefits at a glance:

  • A wide-awake, rejuvenated, and friendly facial expression,
  • Removal of drooping eyelids and excess skin,
  • Potential improvement of the field of vision,
  • Long-lasting rejuvenation of the eye area,
  • Natural results without an “operated” look.

The final result is visible after 3-6 months and generally lasts for many years. However, most patients are fully presentable and ready to resume social activities after just 10 days.

Typical questions from my patients regarding upper eyelid lifts (FAQ)

Here you will find answers to some of the questions frequently asked by my patients.

Does the procedure hurt?

No. Due to the local anesthesia, the operation is completely pain-free; you will only feel the prick of the numbing injection at the very beginning. After that, you will merely perceive a slight sensation of pressure.

How long does an upper eyelid lift take?

Typically between 45 and 60 minutes.

When will I be socially presentable again?

After 7-10 days, swelling and minor bruising have usually subsided sufficiently for you to comfortably go out in public. Even a few days before the sutures are removed, you can usually run basic errands in public if you do not mind the small, skin-colored adhesive strips.

Will visible scars remain?

The fine scar is placed within the natural crease of the eyelid and becomes barely discernible later on.

Can an upper eyelid lift be combined with other treatments?

Yes – a combination with a CO2 laser treatment is particularly popular, as it further refines the skin texture and creates an exceptionally harmonious overall result. This allows for both the lower eyelids and the entire face to be treated simultaneously.
