What is wrinkle injection with Botox?
Wrinkle injection with botulinum toxin (“Botox”) is a popular cosmetic procedure to reduce the appearance of fine lines on the face. In this minimally invasive treatment, a purified form of the neurotoxin is injected into specific facial muscles. The toxin temporarily blocks the nerve signals to these muscles, allowing them to relax and no longer contract. The result is smoother, younger-looking skin.
There are also other treatments for wrinkle injections, namely hyaluronic acid fillers. These are also frequently used for wrinkle injections. These fillers plump up the skin and thus cushion wrinkles and fine lines. They are particularly effective for static wrinkles and volume loss in old age. You can find more details about this on the Fillers page.
Advantages of the treatment
The main benefit of wrinkle injection with botulinum toxin is the smoothing of wrinkles and fine lines. Although this is not permanent, it usually lasts for a good three months, and the skin benefits in the long term from the treatment as pores are refined and the skin texture improves.
Furthermore, the treatment is known for its low level of pain; Dr. Spiegl uses the world’s thinnest needles for the injections. Most patients report minimal discomfort during the quick and practically painless procedure.
In addition, Botox injections can be seamlessly combined with other methods such as hyaluronic acid fillers and skin boosters. With this combined approach, different aspects of facial rejuvenation can be treated, enabling a more comprehensive and tailored aesthetic improvement.
Due to its muscle-modulating effect, botulinum toxin can be used not only for wrinkle injections, but also to improve a gummy smile or to treat teeth grinding. The effective treatment of excessive sweating is also possible with it.
What causes wrinkles?
The aging process and the formation of wrinkles are influenced by a variety of factors, both congenital and external influences.
- Congenital factors: These include genetic predisposition and muscle activity. Some people have a genetic predisposition to age faster or develop more wrinkles than others. At the same time, repetitive muscle movements, such as facial expressions, can contribute to the development of deeper wrinkles over time.
- External factors: These additionally exacerbate wrinkle formation. Smoking contributes significantly to wrinkle formation by narrowing blood vessels and reducing blood flow and oxygen supply to the skin. UV radiation, especially from the sun, accelerates collagen breakdown and increases the risk of photoaging. Chronic stress can also have a detrimental effect on the skin, promoting inflammation and accelerating the aging process.
Understanding all these factors is the key to effective treatment. Standard preventive measures include diligent sun protection to counteract the aging effects of UV light, and a balanced diet rich in antioxidants. You can influence this yourself, Dr. Spiegl will take care of the rest for you!
Gummy Smile – the treatment of a gummy smile
A pronounced gummy smile often arises from overactive upper lip muscles. With a targeted Botox treatment, the upper lip can be gently relaxed so that it lifts less when smiling and the gums are more discreetly visible. The procedure is minimally invasive, virtually painless, and takes only a few minutes.
The effect begins after about 3–5 days, reaches its maximum after around 2 weeks, and lasts an average of 3–6 months. The Botox treatment of a gummy smile is an effective, safe, and reversible alternative to surgical interventions and ensures a harmonious, natural smile without changing facial expressions.
Browtox and Botox for the nose
Browlift with Botox (Browtox)
Browtox treatment is an effective method to gently open up the eye area and correct a tired or heavy gaze. Through targeted Botox injections in the area of the forehead and eyebrow muscles, those muscles that pull the brows down are relaxed, while the lifting muscles remain active. This results in a natural, non-operative brow lift.
The treatment is minimally invasive, takes only a few minutes, and requires no downtime. The effect occurs after 3–7 days, lasts about 3–6 months, and provides a fresh, alert facial expression without a mask effect.
Lifting the tip of the nose with Botox
A slightly lowered tip of the nose – especially when smiling – is often caused by an overactive muscle (Musculus depressor septi nasi). With a targeted Botox treatment to lift the tip of the nose, this muscle can be relaxed so that the tip of the nose lifts discreetly and the profile appears more harmonious.
The procedure is fast, gentle, and low in pain; the effect sets in after a few days and lasts an average of 3–6 months. Lifting the tip of the nose with Botox is a non-operative alternative to rhinoplasty for mild findings and is ideally suited for patients who desire a subtle, reversible change.
The Lip Flip – the natural lip magnification
The Lip Flip with Botox is a minimally invasive aesthetic treatment where small amounts of botulinum toxin are precisely injected into the muscle above the upper lip. This relaxes the muscle slightly, causing the upper lip to roll gently outward and visually appear fuller, without adding volume through fillers.
The Lip Flip is particularly suitable for patients who want a natural emphasis on the lips or whose upper lip flips strongly inward when smiling. The treatment is carried out quickly, is practically painless, and the result usually lasts for 3–4 months.
Teeth grinding (bruxism) – effective treatment with Botox!
Teeth grinding (bruxism) often arises due to overactivity of the masticatory muscles, in particular the masseter muscle. With a targeted Botox treatment, muscle activity can be effectively reduced, which significantly decreases jaw pain, tension, headaches, and dental damage.
The treatment is minimally invasive, takes only a few minutes, and shows its effect after about 5–10 days. The effect usually lasts for 6 months and, in addition to functional relief, often leads to an aesthetic narrowing of the lower face. Botox for bruxism is a proven, safe, and reversible therapy option, especially when bite splints and physiotherapy alone are not sufficient.
Skin Boosters & Biostimulators – natural skin rejuvenation from within
Skin boosters and biostimulators like Profhilo®, diluted Radiesse®, and Sculptra® are among the most modern treatments in aesthetic medicine when it comes to skin quality, elasticity, and collagen production. In contrast to classic fillers, the focus here is not on volume but on the sustainable improvement of the skin structure.
- Profhilo®: Intensively supplies the skin with hyaluronic acid, improves moisture, elasticity, and gives a fresh glow – ideal for the first signs of skin aging.
Costs with Dr. Spiegl: €380 - Sculptra®: Stimulates the body’s own collagen production deep within the skin and ensures a gradual, long-lasting tightening and firming.
Costs with Dr. Spiegl: €440 - Diluted Radiesse®: Also has a biostimulating effect, improves skin density and firmness, and is particularly suitable for the face, neck, and décolleté.
Costs with Dr. Spiegl: €440
All treatments are individually tailored to the skin type and baseline findings and lead to natural, fresh results without an artificial effect – for visibly better skin from the inside out.
Downtime, recovery, and sports
In summary, patients are usually not even swollen after a wrinkle injection with Botox, although minimal small bruises can sometimes form. Overall, the complication rate is extremely low! The results are visible within one to two weeks and then usually last for three months.
It is recommended to avoid strenuous activities and excessive sun exposure for one day. Generally, however, patients can return to their social activities soon after the procedure and use makeup to conceal temporary side effects.
Incapacity for work and sports
A work break is usually not required after wrinkle injections such as Botox or even with fillers. Most patients can resume their work and daily activities immediately after the procedure.
However, it is advisable to follow certain recommendations for activities after the treatment. It is recommended to avoid strenuous physical activities and heavy lifting for the first 24 hours after the wrinkle injection. To achieve an optimal result from the wrinkle injection, you should avoid the following activities for at least one day or as advised by your doctor:
- strenuous workout
- Excessive sun exposure
- Consumption of alcohol
- Massaging or touching the treated area
When are the results visible?
The results of wrinkle injections with botulinum toxin become visible within a relatively short period of time. Typically, the first effects of “Botox” already appear a few days to a week after the treatment. However, it can take up to two weeks for the full effect to become visible. These results are not permanent, but last on average 3 to 4 months. Regular Botox treatments lead to a lasting improvement in the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines; Dr. Spiegl recommends three treatments per year.

Typical questions from my patients (FAQ)
How is wrinkle injection with Botox performed?
In wrinkle injection with Botox, botulinum toxin is precisely injected into specific facial muscles to temporarily relax them and thus reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
How often does wrinkle treatment need to be performed and what success can be expected?
Wrinkle treatments with Botox usually need to be repeated every 4 to 6 months to achieve long-lasting results and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Fillers, such as hyaluronic acid, can last 6–12 months and impart volume and moisture to specific areas of the face, thereby improving facial contours and wrinkles. Success depends on individual goals and the skin’s responsiveness.
How high are the costs for wrinkle treatment in Salzburg or Lower Austria?
A treatment with botulinum toxin costs from €240, a filler treatment with hyaluronic acid from €400, and a therapy with Radiesse from €450.
How does the consultation for a wrinkle treatment proceed?
During a consultation for a non-surgical wrinkle treatment, Dr. Spiegl evaluates your specific goals, assesses your facial anatomy, discusses treatment options, provides personal recommendations, and explains potential risks and benefits.
Does the consultation for a wrinkle treatment cost anything?
Yes. If only the consultation and no treatment is carried out, then the consultation fees amount to €70. However, this amount will be credited towards a treatment performed at a later date.
