The Otoplasty Procedure
In ear pinning, the auricles (outer ears) are surgically reshaped so that they lie closer to the head and appear symmetrical. Depending on the anatomical starting point, cartilage is modeled or fixed to achieve the desired position.
The procedure is usually performed on an outpatient basis and under local anesthesia and lasts about 1 to 1.5 hours.
If desired, the operation can also be performed under twilight sleep (Dämmerschlaf).
Sutures are removed after a few days, and the fine scars run inconspicuously behind the ear.

Slight swelling or pressure sensitivity is normal in the first few days. Wearing a soft headband protects the new ear position during healing.
